Lately, I’ve noticed increased online conversations about Company Culture. At One Hub we have been reviewing our marketing and customer service strategies, as well as how we can continue to attract new members, and this got me thinking about our own company culture.
The culture of an organisation can affect its success, a positive culture will foster employee engagement, an up-turn in productivity, pride in the company you work for, and the work produced, as well as loyalty and customer satisfaction. Likewise, a negative company culture will impact quality of work, productivity, resistance to change, low morale, and high-staff turn-over, for instance.
Many new hires will consider company culture when deciding whether to take up a job offer or not, and similarly as a flexible workspace provider our values and attitudes need to reflect those of the customers we are hoping to attract. Larger corporations looking for serviced offices, for example, will look to the providers that align with their own company’s characteristics, an example of this is B-Corp accreditation or community outreach programmes.
Everyone curates their lifestyles now. They choose, then stream the films and T.V they want to watch, we build music and podcast playlists. Social media algorithms present content tailored to us as individuals, even our coffee orders are individualistic and curated to our own tastes. Deciding where to work also falls into this category, we need to become a space that reflects our members values and likes, so they choose us and stay with us.
Ways of describing company culture could include customer centric, collaborative, results-driven, inclusive, amongst others. The way these cultures are realised is through leadership style, communication, processes, employee relationships and workspace environments, etc.
Whilst it is Management and senior leadership who are ultimately responsible for nurturing a positive culture within an organisation and, as a service provider within the co-working industry we set the tone for our space, it is infact every individual User here at One Hub that contributes to our co-working community.
We aim for our Culture to be inclusive. We include not only our staff but also our members in some decision-making by obtaining feedback and ideas for social events for example…what do they want to see from us. We are collaborative, we get to know our members and their businesses and help them make those all-important connections through introductions and networking, to help elevate their business.
Recognising the achievements of staff and our members, garners a sense of mutual respect amongst employees and throughout our customer base, encouraging a good work/life balance are all factors that go towards building a positive company culture as we continue to build a co-working community that people want to be a part of.
